The purpose of the program is to ensure that migratory children fully benefit from the same free public education provided to other children. To achieve this purpose, the Migrant Education Program helps the local education agencies address the special educational needs of migratory children, which include supplementary services, to better enable them to succeed academically. These funds are provided by the federal government to assist migrant students with services that they might lack due to arriving at their homebase district late and/or leaving early from their homebase due to working in agriculture, farming, ranching, fishery, in slaughter businesses and/or cannery activities.
