STATE CHAMPIONS!!
We are incredibly proud to announce that the Zapata FFA Entomology Team has won the State Championship!
This outstanding team of four young men—Orlando Gomez, Manuel Jasso, Leandro Torres (all sophomores), and Lucas Guerra (junior)—put in countless hours of hard work and dedication. Despite their busy schedules with other extracurricular activities and college courses, they committed at least 8 hours per week, including Sundays, to prepare for this competition.
Their journey has been inspiring. Zapata’s first team to attend the state entomology contest competed in 2018, placing 35th. Every year since, our teams have steadily climbed the ranks—finishing 5th last year. This year, they set a goal to bring home the championship—and they did just that, rising to the top out of 59 FFA high school teams across Texas!
Special congratulations to Orlando Gomez, who placed 2nd individually, and Leandro Torres, who placed 3rd individually and Manuel Jasso placed 9th out of 229 competitors.
What an incredible accomplishment for these young leaders. We are so proud of you all!
